Gold large grande sonnerie repeater

A magnificent and exceptionally rare Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel and pearl set grande sonnerie trip quarter repeating clockwatch, circa 1820. The case with a hinged and sprung front bezel decorated with gold, chased and engraved leaves, set with seed pearls against a royal blue translucent champlevé enamel engine turned ground, the band decorated with chased and engraved gold leaves within a royal blue champlevé enamel ground, the pendant set with pearls, the hinged and sprung back cover realistically and very finely painted on enamel with a peony, the interiors of the front and back decorated with black champlevé enamel foliage within an outer border of pale turquoise enamel. A hinged gold pale green champlevé enamelled cuvette decorated with engraved gold foliate scrolls, and a blue champlevé enamel border with engraved gold scrolls and translucent red enamel ovals.

Silver gilt dial with radial champlevé Roman hour numerals, outer minute divisions, an engine turned center secured by two screws and fine blued steel serpentine hands. A frosted gilt movement with standing barrels for the quarter and hour striking trains, a barrel for the going train within a shaped plate with a bridge secured by three screws, blued steel stop work, cylinder escapement, plain three arm balance, flat balance spring, blued steel index regulator, striking and repeating with two hammers on two blued steel gongs activated by the central pearl trip button in the pendant, visible polished steel quarter and hour wheels, further striking work on the dial plate and a strike/not strike lever beneath the bezel.
