Gold hunting cased watch
–
An extraordinary, unique gold hunting-cased watch with enamel painting on the back, probably imperial present watch, portrait of Alexander I., Tsar of Russia, Dubois et Fils, circa 1820. An 18K pink gold, hunting cased watch, high relief on front lid with laurel wreath, worked in green gold and pink gold, monogram cartouche “EEP” or Cyrillic ” EER”, back also with laurel wreath, finest enamel painting in the centre, portrait of Alexander I.., Tsar of Russia, glazed, glass with small chips at the rim, signed dome, gilt verge movement, repeating the hours and quarters, signed enamel dial, very exceptional and fine steel/ pink gold hour hand, later minute hand, intact and in very good condition, movement to be cleaned.

The laurel wreath symbolises a special honour or award, especially for a victory or a special success. Therefore it is also called the “Winner’s Wreath”. So the watch may have been a gift for an award.
