A rare Swiss 18K gold and painted-on enamel pocket watch made for the Turkish market, circa 1830. Accompanied by a fitted wooden box. The back is decorated with a fine painted-on enamel flower trophy with a flaming torch and quiver on a pink ground, the outer light blue, white and green champleve enamel border with engraved gold foliate scrolls, and the bezel, pendant and bow decorated to match. Fixed gold cuvette with apertures for winding and hand-setting. White enamel dial with Islamic numerals, outer minute track and gold Breguet hands. Matte gilt, full plate movement, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental cock, silvered regulation dial. Dial and cuvette signed in Islamic text.

The flaming torch and quiver of arrows are the attributes of Venus and Cupid. This watch is therefore an emblem of love, the meaning of which would have been clearly understood in the early 19th century.
