Gold, enamel, pearl set centre seconds quarter repeater

A fine and rare Swiss 18 Carat gold, enamel and pearl set open faced quarter repeating watch with centre seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1810. “Summer Bouquet” Frosted gilt, bar calibre with standing barrel, cylinder escapement, three arm brass balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating on two square section gongs by depressing the pendant.
White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic quarter hour numerals, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel Breguet hands, pearl set bezels.
Pearl set case back, bezel with light blue enamel outlining, pearl set pendant and bow, enamel decorated chased foliate band, hinged and sprung back cover with pearl set border and set with a fine painted on enamel panel of a “Summer Bouquet” including peonies, poppies and roses against a pale red guilloche ground. Punch numbered on the front plate.

Ferdinand Aubert Is recorded as working at Cité 34 in 1828. He was an important horologist specialized in musical and automation watches, particularly for the Chinese market. He used very high quality cases, with enamel decoration and pearls, and often used blanks from the Vallée de Joux. He worked with the brothers David and Louis Le Coultre from approximately 1810 to 1835.
