Gold hunting cased lever pocket watch by Le Phare

A fine Swiss, large, hunting cased, keyless, minute repeating, 18K pink gold pocket watch with a chronograph, circa 1910.
A polished case, hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute track and outermost fifths of a second division, 0-300 scale, subsidiary seconds dial, and gilt Louis XV hands. A frosted gilt movement, 25 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, centrifugal governor, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a push-button on the band. Case numbered, cuvette signed Le Phare.

On November 30, 1888, Barbezat-Baillot, Charles-Ami registered the brand name Le Phare (= the lighthouse) in Le Locle, which he used as the company name from 1905. 1896 Completion of the factory building complex, which from 1883constantly had to expand the production premises to meet the increasing demand. The company now employs 200 people. Barbezat-Baillot was a brilliant watchmaker and inventor and registered numerous patents. The Swiss patent 334 was one of Barbezat-Baillot’s most important inventions and involved the use of centrifugal force in the repetition mechanism.
