Unsigned gold open faced watch
–
A Swiss gold open faced virgule pocket watch with an eccentric dial, circa 1820. The watch features an unsigned gilded open work movement with a virgule escapement, a plain three arm balance, a frosted gilded plain cock and barrel cover, and a polished steel index regulator. It boasts a gold engine turned dial, with the centre engraved with a lyre shaped pedestal surmounted by a basket of fruit and apertures for winding and hand setting. The base has a white enamel chapter ring, Arabic numerals, an outer minute ring, and blued steel hands. The gold case showcases a polished back, milled bezels and band, and the pendant is stamped 635.

The movement is unable to wind, but the hands are functioning. The balance is free and will engage the escapement, running for a couple of seconds when given an impetus. The dial is cracked, chipped, and repaired at the edge between 6 and 8 o’clock. There are light scratches throughout the polished central motif. The case has light scuffs and scratches throughout. It appears that the back panel was once taken out and re fitted.
