This watch is unusual as it still employs an engraved verge movement. Engraved movements were fashionable in China, and thus, this watch houses the predecessor to the engraved “Chinese” caliber that followed.
This watch represents a rare and early example from Dimier & Cie. This manufacturer was a Swiss maker of repute, established in the early 19th century and active until the mid-19th century. Alongside Dimier & Cie, other makers such as Bovet, Vaucher and Juvet were amongst the largest manufacturers of Swiss watches for the Chinese market.
