Gold hunting cased pocket watch by Patek Philippe & Co.
–
An impressive and elegant Swiss hunting cased pocket watch with chronograph and 30-minute counter, circa 1916. Sold on December 18th, 1919, with Patek Philippe extract from the archives.
An 18-carat gold smooth hunting case with a hinged case back. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds at 9, 1/5 second chronograph (activated by the round push-piece on the winding crown), instantaneous 30-minute recorder (subsidiary dial at 3 o’clock), and spade-blued hands. Keyless-winding, rhodium-plated bridge movement, going barrel, straight-line equilibrated lever escapement, moustaches, compensated balance and blued steel hairspring with a terminal curve, index regulator with swan-neck spring and micrometric screw.
This beautiful pocket watch is in remarkable condition; the chronograph is operated by pressing the crown itself and not with a separate pusher through the crown. The technical details and the incredibly elegant design of this movement explain the lasting fascination with the Patek Philippe brand through the decades.
