Rare double dial tachymeter chronograph by Omega

A rare Swiss gunmetal open face double dial tachymeter chronograph by Omega, circa 1906. Sold by retailer Kirby Beard & Co. Ltd., Paris. This watch features a gilt ¾ plate movement with lever escapement, a bimetallic balance, an overcoiled spring, and visible chronograph work mounted on the back plate, operated by a single button on the crown. The front has a white enamel dial with black painted Arabic numerals, a polychrome painted mileage scale (on 250 km/h), golden Stuart pear hands, an elapsed minutes totaliser (on 15 minutes) at 12 o’clock with polychrome markings for the first five minutes, and a blued steel straight chronograph seconds hand. The reverse side features a polychrome painted peripheral graduated scale, with a straight hand in blued steel.

It has a round blackened steel case, a smooth bezel, a fluted crown, an oval bezel with an integrated pusher, and an officer’s case back with a transparent cover. The case, dial, and movement are signed. This rare model presents the double signature of the Parisian retailer Kirby Beard, and is fitted with a polychromatic tachymetric scale along with a glass back displaying a 100 m scale.
