Open faced lever tourbillon watch by Mobilis

A Swiss gunmetal open faced keyless one minute People’s Tourbillon watch with lever escapement, circa 1910. The watch features a gilded full plate lever movement, with the backplate stamped Bté s.g.d.g. 30754 Mobilis, Pat. No. 7888/1905, Brevettato R.A. 208.N.232, and U.S. Pat. Applied For. It has an asymmetrical silver engine turned dial with Arabic numerals, an outer pearled minute ring, blued steel hands, and a large aperture that reveals the tourbillon carriage with a lever escapement. The case is made of gunmetal with a pink gold hinge and bow, and the back is numbered.

Movement is running. Hands adjust smoothly. The dial has some scuffs and scratches near the 6 and 4 positions. The case shows light marks and abrasions.

This watch is made according to Paul Loichot’s 1904 patent. Loichot licensed his invention to be used by Courvoisier Frères, the latter selling tourbillon watches using the patent under the brand name Mobilis, see K. Pritchard, Swiss Timepiece Makers 1775-1975, 1997.
