A Swiss heavy gold enamel gentleman’s pocket watch produced for the Chinese market, circa 1810. Unusual design of the musical movement, where it is activated through the pendant.
18 carat gold, enamel case, engine-turned back with translucent cobalt blue enamelling and exquisite arrangement of lilies and blades of grass in the centre: translucent enamelling studded with half pearls and diamonds. Partially open work middle section with wave ornamentation of opaque light and dark blue Champlevé enamelling. Bezels with translucent light blue interlace pattern and studded with half pearls; gilt dome with floral engraving, pendant pusher for the musical movement. Enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, centre seconds and opened Breguet hands. Full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, with 1 barrel for going train, 1 barrel for musical movement with tuned 5 vibrating blades and pinmbarrel, cylinder escapement and ring balance.
