Silver and rose gold Compass Lépine
–
A very unusual Swiss silver and rose gold open faced keyless pocket watch with a compass made by Omega in La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1927. The engine turned case back with a central monogrammed foliate engraved cartouche, a further polished gilt bezel, band and border. White enamel 24 hour day and night dial, the lower half in a darker tone to indicate the night time hours, radial Arabic numerals 1-12 and 13-24, supplementary inner red numerals 1-12, an outer minute track with individual Arabic numerals 1-10 for each ten minute section, red ten minute numerals, the points of the compass after Swiss patent no. 30613, subsidiary seconds and rose gold spade hands, the hour hand making one full rotation in 24 hours.
–
In good weather, this kind of 24 hour dial allows the determination of the compass points, simply by pointing the hour hand towards the sun.
–
Matte gilt movement with 15 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring with overcoil and swan neck micrometre regulator. A hinged silver cuvette engraved with prize medals. Dial, case, cuvette and movement signed, the case with Swiss and German silver marks, case and movement numbered.
