Gold open faced lever repeating calendar watch by Audemars Piguet
–
A very fine Swiss gold open faced keyless lever minute repeating perpetual calendar watch with moon phases, circa 1960. This watch features a cal. 18SMV 5 damascened nickel movement, signed Audemars Piguet, no. 32713, with lever escapement, 29 jewels, a bimetallic compensation balance, and two polished steel hammers on coiled gongs. It has a silvered dial, signed Audemars Piguet, Genève, and Gübelin, with gold baton indexes, an outer minute track, satin finished subsidiary dials for day, date, month, leap year indication, and an aperture for moon phases combined with moon age and constant seconds. The 18 carat gold case has a satin finished back and band, a faceted bezel, and is additionally signed Audemars Piguet, numbered 32713.

The movement is running and repeating smoothly. The subsidiary dials for day and date show a small scratch on the dial. As the watch was sold to Vacheron, the Audemars archives lack records indicating whether Vacheron subsequently sold the watch to Gubelin. The case exhibits light scuffs throughout, with heavier scratches on the back and band, likely from case openings.

This watch reflects a classic midcentury aesthetic, merging it with the modern, clean design popularised in the 1960s. Its dial echoes the design of three reference 5516 perpetual calendar wristwatches delivered by Audemars Piguet to Vacheron Constantin in 1959, the year before this watch was sold. Like the 5516 models supplied to Vacheron Constantin, this watch bears the Audemars Piguet signature on the case, dial, and movement.

Signed: Audemars Piguet, Genève
