Extract from the St. Paul Daily Globe, October 06, 1889: “GIRLS WITH FORTUNES” – Pretty San Francisco Heiresses Who Have Plenty of Ducats: “Miss E. H. Chabot usually called Nellie, a very pretty and graceful girl, whose father, now dead, owned Lake Chabot in Oakland.” Anthony Chabot (1813 – 1888) Chabot was a nineteenth century businessman and entrepreneur, notable for his contribution to developing hydraulic mining and for building water systems, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, so much that he became known as the “Water King”. Today there is Anthony Chabot Regional Park and Lake Chabot which offer a number of activities.
