–
An excellent Swiss keyless one minute tourbillon watch in a silver open faced exhibition case, circa 1930. This timepiece features a damascened movement with a lever escapement mounted on a one minute tourbillon carriage with a three arm polished steel cage. It is signed James C. Pellaton Le Locle and dated on the backplate to 1930. The silvered dial showcases black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds display, and blued steel moon hands. The case is made of silver, with bezels and bands, and is glazed on both sides.

James C. Pellaton (1873-1954) was a second generation watchmaker from Le Locle who earned a reputation as one of the most skilled watchmakers of the early twentieth century. He apprenticed under his father, Albert Pellaton Favre, who specialised in tourbillon escapements. Throughout his career, James Pellaton focused on developing tourbillons and, alongside his father, produced 35 tourbillons for Patek Philippe alone. Pellaton later became the director of the Le Locle watchmaking school and continued to create tourbillons for notable Swiss brands, establishing himself as the leading tourbillon maker of his time. His distinctive tourbillon carriage design can be observed in the present lot.
