Gold open faced cylinder watch by Felix Pernetti
–
A Swiss gold open faced jump hour cylinder watch with sector for seconds, circa 1830. The watch features a gilded movement with a cylinder escapement, a plain three arm gold balance, a blued steel regulation index, and a standing barrel. It has a silver engine turned dial, signed Fix. Pernetti, with an aperture for hours, a satin finished ring for minutes, and a broad sector aperture for seconds indicated by a double ended blued steel hand. The gold case showcases an engine turned back, bezel, and band, with a gilt metal cuvette that includes apertures for winding, engraved with movement details and signed Fix. Pernetti à Genève. The case back and cuvette are numbered 13861, with the back stamped DH within an oval cartouche, and the cuvette stamped HC incuse.

The movement is running. The minute hand is setting smoothly, and the hours seem to be jumping well. The dial’s engine turning remains well defined, with some scuffing and light scratches. The sector for seconds features a double ended seconds hand so that as the tip of one side disappears to the right, the other side appears to the left. The case shows some rubbing and a slight loss of definition in the engine turned decoration at the edge of the case back and bezel. The cover and cuvette close securely.

Felix Pernetti is mentioned by O. Patrizzi in Dictionnaire des Horlogers Genevois, where Pernetti is recognised for both the high quality of his watches and his production of complicated timepieces.

Signed: Fix. Pernetti à Genève
