Pocket watch made for the Berlin watchmaker Theodor Wolff
–
A gold pocket watch with an extract from the archives, specially made for the Berlin watchmaker Theodor Wolff by Patek, Philippe & Co, Genève, Switzerland, circa 1869. The pocket watch features an elegant 18 Carat gold “à goutte” (water drop shape) open faced case, which is adorned with a coin edge and boasts an engine turned back with an engraved decoration. What sets this timepiece apart is the rare signature found on the dust cover, which proudly proclaims “Th. Wolff Berlin Elève de Patek Philippe & Co. Genève”. This unique signature not only adds to the watch’s historical significance but also highlights the close collaboration between these two esteemed watchmakers. The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals marking the hours from 1 to 12 o’clock and red Arabic numerals are used to indicate the hours from 13 to 24. A subsidiary dial positioned at 6 o’clock displays the seconds, while blued steel hands sweep gracefully across the dial. At the heart of this remarkable timepiece lies a Patek Philippe movement featuring a precision lever escapement with Wolf’s teeth and a moustache lever.
The matching numbers found on both the movement and dust cover, 36247, serve as a testament to the originality and authenticity of this pocket watch. Furthermore, the signature on the dust cover reinforces the collaboration between Patek Philippe and Theodor Wolff, adding a touch of historical significance to an already remarkable timepiece.
