Large gold and enamelled pocket watch
–
An important large gold and enamelled pocket watch with oriental pearls and quarter repeater, probably made by Piguet & Meylan in Geneva, Switzerland, for the Chinese market, circa 1810. This pocket watch made of 18 Carat gold has an open faced case has a master’s mark JR No.89, is enamelled blue and is extremely elaborately set with half oriental pearls, which are also on the pendant and bracket. A small opening button is on the case edge. The golden engine turned dial has a decentralized time display at 12 o’clock with Roman numerals for the hours below which the small seconds dial is included. The dust cover is wonderfully engraved and enamelled and the movement features a cylinder escapement with quarter repeater.
