–
A large Swiss gold and enamel quarter-repeating musical open faced pocket watch, circa 1820. Made for the Chinese market. This watch has a gilt movement that is finely chased and engraved with foliate decoration. It has a cylinder escapement and is capable of repeating on coiled gongs. The watch is signed by Bovet with the serial number 9819. The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, and a glazed cuvette. The case is made of gold and features a polychrome enamel scene on the back, which depicts a lady and gentleman in a classical dress within a landscape. Both the bezels and bow have turquoise enamel, translucent red enamel, and engraved decoration. The band and stem also have black and translucent red enamel with engraved decoration.

The case has scratches and a chip in the red enamel of the band. Solder is visible around the polychrome enamel panel, and there is a crack in the glazed cuvette. The glass cover is missing, and the hour hand is broken. The movement is not running, does not repeat correctly, and music plays when the button is pressed.
