Gold and pearl set form pocket watch
–
A rare Swiss gold enamel miniature fob watch in the shape of a mandolin, circa 1820. The watch features an 18-carat gold case with blue enamel on the back cover. The blue enamelling is decorated with a music sheet and foliate decor in taille d’epargne. The front side is engine-turned and translucent red enamelled. It is also set with half-pearls and has a glazed soundhole for a visible balance bridge. The edges are adorned with gold foliage on a black ground. The enamel dial has Arabic numerals and blued Breguet hands. A small full plate movement powers the watch and is keywind. It is fire gilt and has chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance, and pierced and engraved balance bridge.
