A Swiss gentleman’s rare pocket watch, circa 1900.
Nickel case with florally engraved bezel and lavishly engraved decoration of wine tendrils and a horse’s head. White signed enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, Arabic minutes, sunk auxiliary seconds and blued spade hands. 2/3 plate movement, rhodium-plated, stripe-decorated, patented “Brevet 3647”, screw ring balance, florally engraved balance cock, counterpoised lever.

Charmilles und Potter’s Patent / Albert H. Potter (1836 – 1908) This patent, with others pertaining to the Charmilles watch, was assigned to the New Haven Watch Company for a reputed fifty thousand dollars. The Charmilles watch was produced in a factory in Charmilles outside Geneva – hence the name of the watch – and was an attempt to create reliable timekeeping movements at low prices. Albert H. Potter died on January 25, 1908, in Geneva.
