Gilt metal single cased watch by Reynaud
–
A rare Swiss gilt metal single cased pocket watch with unusual verge escapement and jump hours, circa 1770. This watch has a gilded full plate movement, signed Reynaud Invt et Fecit à Paris, with unusual verge escapement with hooked teeth engaging virgule type pallets; the hour advanced by depressing the pendant; releasing the pendant returns the hand to 12 o’clock; a flat three-arm brass balance; and a plain balance bridge set with red endstone. The white enamel dial has an eccentric chapter ring with red Arabic numerals and an outer black Arabic minute track, also signed Reynaud Invenit et Fecit. The watch is housed in a gilt metal single case with a glazed back.

The movement is operational, though there are some light tarnishes and scuffs on the plates. The hour hand does not return to the 12 o’clock position when pressed and requires repair or adjustment. The dial has minor scratches and slight chipping around the winding aperture. There is rubbing and wear on the gilding of the bezels, and the pendant is slightly loose.
