Unsigned gold full hunter calendar chronograph
–
A Swiss gold hunting cased quarter repeating triple calendar chronograph watch with moon phases, circa 1913. The watch features a frosted gilded movement with a lever escapement, bimetallic compensation balance, steel overcoil hairspring, revolving governor, and two polished steel hammers that repeat on coiled gongs. The steel chronograph mechanism is partially visible through the backplate. It has a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer scales for minutes and chronograph seconds, four subsidiary dials for day, date, month, and seconds, an aperture for moon phases, blued steel hands, and a central chronograph seconds hand.

The case is 14 carat gold with polished covers and a plain gold cuvette. There are pushers for the repeat and chronograph on the band, alongside four adjusters beneath the bezel for manually advancing the day, date, month, and moon phases. It features a gold pendant and bears the London import hallmark for 1913-14, with the import sponsor’s mark of George Stockwell.

The movement is running smoothly. The chronograph is functional and starts and stops effectively; however, the reset is somewhat temperamental. The repeater sounds clear. The day, date, and moon phases advance as the hands move through 24 hours, with all calendar adjusters beneath the bezel also advancing the various calendar settings. The dial exhibits hairline cracks, particularly noticeable between 8 and 9 o’clock, above and below 3 o’clock and at the dial centre. The centre of the subsidiary seconds dial beneath the moon phase aperture has been rather crudely repaired and is an off white colour. The case back has a few small indentations and some marks on the band, including a significant dent beside the hinge and slight rippling to the bezel. The cuvette is quite heavily scratched around the case opening. The covers close securely.
