A very fine Swiss gentleman’s quarter repeating pocket watch with musical movement, circa 1830.
The rose gold case is engine-turned, the bezels with an applied yellow gold flower border, the centre decorated in high relief with the chased coat of arms of the Nevill Abergavenny family with the motto Ne Vile Velis (Don’t wish anything bad); reeded band, slide for activating the musical movement, and case maker’s punch mark ML. The gilt dial, has an engine-turned centre, inlaid radial Roman numerals, and blued Breguet hands. And the keywind, frosted, gilt bridge movement has two hammers / two gongs, two going barrels, sur plateau (on tray) musical movement with a pinned disc, cylinder escapement, and three-arm ring balance.
