Silver watch for the British Hydrographic Service
–
A large Swiss silver keyless deck chronometer made for the British Hydrographic Service by Vacheron Constantin SA in Geneva, circa 1942. The numbered open faced case of this watch, made by the Fédération de Fabricants de Boîtes Argent (FFBA), S. Graber SA in Renan, was crafted from silver and has the British military marking H.S.↑2 on the back lid. The silvered dial has large suspended Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued steel spade hands. The numbered movement features a chronometer escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws, and an index regulator with a swan neck spring and micrometric screw. Dial and case marked with the broad arrow of the British Ministry, and the dial, case and movement are signed.
