Silver captain’s watch
–
A captain’s watch with compass and florally decorated movement, probably made in Switzerland, circa 1850. The open faced, guilloché case of this watch was crafted from silver, has a cuvette engraved with the technical details, a coin edge, and on the back lid a floral and foliage decorated, vacant cartouche in the center. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 8 o’clock, a compass at 4 and steel filigree hands. The magnificently engraved and skeletonized movement features a lever escapement, bridges in floral form and key winding.
