A remarkable Swiss 18 carat gold open faced cylinder pocket watch with an animated scene from the Garden of Eden The Temptation, circa 1810. Full plate movement, key-winding, chain/fusee, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.
White enamel dial exquisitely painted with gold, showing several animals in peaceful coexistence a deer, duck, bear and bird, the scene is inspired by the bible’s description of paradise, on a separate medallion at 12, a serpent circles around Adam & Eve under the Tree of Knowledge in the space of one minute, the hours are displayed with Arabic numerals on a small off centre auxiliary dial. Plain case, maker’s mark DFM.
