Acier Staybrite
Acier Staybrite refers to the brand name “Staybrite,” a type of stainless steel developed by the British company Thomas Firth & Sons in 1924 and marketed to the watch industry by their subsidiary, Acier Firth of Zurich, starting in 1931. “Acier” is the French word for steel, so it essentially translates to “Staybrite Steel”. This 18/8 stainless steel alloy was a precursor to the modern SAE 304 stainless steel family and was known for its corrosion resistance and workability, making it popular for watch cases and jewellery.
