A rare and fine Swiss torpedo boat chronometer with 50h power reserve; a custom product created for the Washington Observatory in 1909.
The watch has a silver-tiered case with a gold crown and hinge. It features a silvered dial with Roman radial hours, extra seconds, and an indicator for the power reserve. The blued spade hands add a touch of elegance. The gilt bridge movement has 21 jewels, an unusual caged balance wheel, screwed gold chatons, and a gold screw compensation balance. The free-sprung blued balance spring and counterpoised lever are also present.
