A rare Swiss pair-cased gold enamel verge pocket watch with four colour gold decor, miniature portrait and corresponding three-colour gold chatelaine with signet and key, circa 1780.
This elaborately finished ensemble consists of a verge pocket watch with corresponding chatelaine and is decorated with multicolour gold ornamentation. The back of the watch shows a polychrome enamel medallion with a miniature portrait of a lady in period costume. The portrait is framed by a baroque style, with four colour gold tendril of flowers and leaves. The gilt movement has been finely executed and has an open-work, silver-coloured balance bridge with floral motifs. The chatelaine has a signet and a watch key and is decorated with red and green gold petals, totalling 340 mm.
The outer case is gold and polychrome enamel; the inner is 18-carat gold. The dial is enamel with Roman numerals and gold hands. It has a full plate movement, a chain/fusee and a three-arm brass balance.
