Gilt open faced Freemason’s watch by Emile Servet
–
A unique Swiss gilt open faced Freemason’s pocket watch, circa 1900.
The colourful decorated white enamel dial is to be expected with Freemasons’ watches, although this particular one, with its gold Roman hours, blue five minute numerals and Masonic symbols, is even more beautiful than usual. The polished case has remains of engine turning on the back and a central, decoratively engraved, vacant cartouche.
The bridge movement shimmers like mother-of-pearl and has a lever escapement with gold screw compensation balance.

Emile Servet, Swiss watch case and watch manufacturer
Emile Servet was mainly a maker of watch cases in Geneva around 1900. In 1889, the company succeeded Boujon & Servet and was known for the production of gold, silver and gold plated watch cases. On September 4th, 1893, the Excelsior ES (Emile Servet) brand (on banners with eagles, arrows, rays and keys) was registered. Servet & Fils was already listed from 1870 to 1874. Servet received a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. However, the watch shown is a complete watch labelled Emile Servet.
