In the 1920s, Patek Philippe produced some dress watches of which the cases were made using the ramolayé technique. The enamel background is black or blue decorated in gold. The production books of the manufactory mention that these works were entrusted to a craftsman enameller L. Mayland, Geneva. A few examples are today kept in the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva. Another Patek Philippe dress watch representing a ‘Griffon’ is known. The case back is made with a mixture of more complex techniques, using the champlevé technique imitating the cloisonné work and the painting on enamel.

Arabesques: Arabesque is originally an architectural term used for decorations with a graceful intertwining of leaves, flowers, animals and other figures in Arabic style.
–
Ramolayé-technique: A technique that is often used in jewellery, because it allows the creation of small patterns. The maker uses chisels. It is a technique that gives the piece a matte appearance.
