Gold open faced lever watch
–
A very early, historically important Genèva repeater, museum quality, from the founding phase of the company Patek Philippe, signed Czapek i Spolka, circa 1846. An 18K gold, relief case in exceptional quality, à-goutte-case, maker’s mark EP (Etienne Piguet), extremely detailed depiction of a historical military scene with horsemen, surrounded by a very splendid engraving, reeded mid-section, dome signed, numbered and inscribed “Ikazowki”, probably the buyer of the watch, signed, very fine caliber with moustache lever, repeating the hours and quarters, screwed enamel dial, fine Breguet steel hands, excellent condition, in working order, absolute rarity.
The watch is a museum piece from the early days of the Patek Philippe company and was probably made in the first year after the separation of Patek and Czapek. At that time, the watches were made for wealthy Polish customers and were signed with Patek i Spolka and Czapek i Spolka. Only very few of this extremely rare watches are known with both signatures. Most of the cases were made by Etienne Piguet and the movements had identical calibers. Even the early crown winding of Adrien Philippe was adapted by Czapek.
