A Swiss 18 carat rose gold hunting cased lever pocket watch with chronograph, circa 1872. Sold on June 6th, 1874. Bridge movement, lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance. White enamel dial with letters which form the name Alb(er)t Gallatin instead of numerals. Plain case, reeded band, monogrammed on both sides. Case and movement with matching numbers. Comes with an Extract from the Archives.

Patek Philippe only very rarely produced dials with letters instead of numerals.

Albert Gallatin was United States Secretary of the Treasury from 1801 to 1814. He died in 1849, which was two decades before this watch was finished. It is unclear whether there is any connection between the politician and this timepiece.
