An ornamental French silver open faced verge pocket watch with date, circa 1800. Gilt full plate movement, chain and fusee, three-arm brass balance, pierced balance cock. The front is decorated with a fine gold painting showing a kind of baroque-style kiln in a strangely mythical lake setting, a small white enamel dial at 6 o’clock with Arabic hours and outer minute divisions, date indication at 12. The case is glazed on both sides, the columnar structure engraved on the back reveals the exquisitely finished balance cock, maker’s mark PIG. Case and movement numbered.
