An English silver open faced precision pocket watch with 34 minute carrousel and center seconds, circa 1905. ¾ Plate movement, hallmarked PEB with a crown above, a lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance and free swinging blued balance spring. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute/second track, Arabic five minute numerals, a sunk centre and black spade & whip hands. The plain case is engraved KSA XX.V on the back, maker’s mark WB, a gold crown and hinge. Dial signed and numbered, movement and case numbered. Comes with the original wooden box.

During the test at the Kew Observatory in 1904, this Bonniksen carrousel watch received the Kew reference number 12064 (abbreviated as 2064 in the main part of the book pages) and was rated 89.2 points and an Ae/g certificate.

There is no immediate information about the inscription ‘KSA XX.V’. It probably refers to the institution that used the watch.

Carrousel timepieces are an invention of the Dane Bahne Bonniksen, who registered a patent in England in 1892. With his invention, he wanted to strike a balance between an expensive tourbillon and a normal chronometer. He even achieved better results with his carrousel watches than other manufacturers with tourbillons. One is only aware of very few copies that bear B. Bonniksen’s signature.
