A very attractive and flat Swiss 18 carat gold open faced precision pocket watch, circa 1910. Bridge movement, a piston tooth lever escapement and screw compensation balance. Silvered dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and heavy moon hands. A plain case. Dial signed, case and movement signed and numbered. Comes with the original presentation box.

Paul Ditisheim, born in 1868 and died in 1945, was one of the most important Swiss watch and chronometer makers. He researched and published primarily on topics of precision time measurement. After training at the Watchmaking School in La Chaux-de-Fonds, he worked in Ponts-de-Martel, Berlin, Paris and Rotherham in Coventry. In 1892 he opened a watch factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds and soon became one of the most successful pocket and on-board chronometer makers, winning numerous first prizes in countless competitions.
