Steel chronometer with stationary case

A rare, almost new Swiss steel open faced deck chronometer for astronomical positioning in a mahogany transport box and with a stationary case made by Ulysse Nardin in Le Locle, circa 1956. The 2/3 plate movement with a Guillaume gold screw compensation balance, Nivarox hairspring and switchable seconds contact device. Silvered dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued spade hands. The smooth case with a screw back and movement protection cap. Dial signed, case and movement numbered. Comes with an Extract from the Andreas Hiddings Chronometer database.

According to the Extract from the Andreas Hiddings Chronometer database, this piece participated in the chronometer competition of the Neuchâtel Observatory (regulator Roger Ruffion) in 1970, taking 26th place out of 42 chronometers in the category “Pocket chronometer – balance wheel/hairspring.”

The ebauche comes from a batch of 402 pieces of the 24‴ CCR caliber, numbered and inventoried in April 1956. On October 6th, 1971, the chronometer was delivered to Mayor Neuchâtel for testing and invoiced to the Federal Office for Defence Technology in Koblenz on December 14th, 1971.
