This timepiece comes from a small series of 88 examples, produced between 1925 and 1930, that were intended exclusively for precision competitions, but the present example is one of the few clockworks of this type that does not appear in the result lists.

As said, the Omega chronometer Cal. 60.8 mm was intended exclusively for precision competitions. This very large caliber hardly achieved better results than the 47.7 mm caliber. The observatory caliber, which was constructed taking into account all known knowledge and experience, still has some remarkable properties, even if all the functional reliability necessary in a watch for everyday use is omitted.
