Gold enamelled verge pendant watch

An extremely rare gold and enamel watch in the form of a basket made by Jean Robert Soret in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1810. This watch crafted from 18 carat gold has a numbered, basket shaped case with a very detailed and multi coloured enamel design. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour and fifteen minute numerals, and gold hands. The numbered movement has a verge escapement.
Case and movement with matching numbers, dial and movement signed.

A miniature form watch in this design and condition is a rarity. Jean Robert Soret was one of the most important Geneva manufacturers of these enamel miniature timepieces in various designs. The present watch, a so-called basket, is one of the rarest designs and shapes.

Jean Robert Soret (1731-1799) was a master watchmaker from a horological family of at least three generations. One member of the family, Frédéric, worked in London. He may have represented the family in the English market.
