Gold quarter repeating full hunter with date by A. Lange

A significant, rare German 18 carat gold hunting cased quarter repeating watch with date, circa 1871. Precision lever movement quality 1A, screwed gold chatons, diamond endstone, gold lever, gold escape wheel, repeating hours and quarter hours. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, blued steel hand, display for a date. Engine turned à goutte case, reeded midsection, engraving on the edge of the case, Pat. May 1866, early crown winding presenting American patent by Lange. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered. It comes with an extract of the archives and was sold to the New York company Charles William Schumann in 1872.

A. Lange produced only six watches equipped with a quarter repeater from the first series (No. 7647-7652). Only two of them were equipped with a double complication with an additional display for date, of which Lange produced a total of only 22 pieces. This piece is the oldest still existing repeater by A. Lange.
