Silver pocket watch with naval automaton

An English silver open faced verge pocket watch with an automaton depicting Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile, circa 1800. Full plate fusee movement, round pillars, an unusual engraved cock with mask, silver regulator on an engraved plate and a separate plate left vacant for engraving the retailer’s name, plain three-arm steel balance. A polychrome enamelled dial, an offset chapter with radial Arabic hours, outer minute divisions and decorative pierced gilt hands, underneath a scene depicting the Battle of the Nile which took place in Aboukir Bay in 1798, the ships of the British fleet on the right and the French on the left, one ablaze, ships of both nations move past the oval aperture on a disc as the watch runs. Plain case with silver pendant and bow, maker’s mark TC.
