An English 18 carat gold hunting cased spring detent pocket chronometer, circa 1865. Very fine chronometer movement, chain/fusee, spring detent chronometer escapement and spherical hairspring, screwed gold chatons, bridge signed Dent London. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands. Engine turned case à goutte. Cuvette inscribed: Chronometer No. 487. Comes with probably original box inscribed M.F. Dent ‘Chronometer Maker to Her Late Majesty’ London. M.F. Dent (Marianna Frederica Dent) carried the title ‘Chronometer Maker to the Queen’.
