–
A Swiss yellow gold hunting cased key wound pocket watch with power reserve indication, circa 1865. The watch features a frosted gilt 3/4 plate movement with jewels set in screwed chatons, a fusee with chain and maintaining power, and a lateral lever escapement. It includes a cut bimetallic compensation balance, a blued steel Breguet balance spring, a diamond endstone, and an index regulator. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds, a power reserve indicator, and original blued steel pear hands. It is housed in an engine turned 18 carat yellow gold hunting case with a hinged case back.
–
Both the dial and movement are signed by the maker, and the case is numbered. The watch comes with a Charles Frodsham & Co. presentation box and a winding key. Cuvette is personally inscribed Peter Butler to John E Ivan, Feb 1868. The cuvette is also inscribed Justum et tenacem propositi virum. J. Thos, Vose to E.D. Harlow, Jan 1887.
