–
An important and extremely rare Swiss 18 carat rose gold automaton pocket watch, La Chasse Carousel (The Wandering Theatre), circa 1810. Gilt verge movement. White enamel dial, in the upper part an aperture with a painted landscape in the background, in the foreground a house and in front of it a path on which various figures are passing by the aperture while the watch is running, the lower part with a small indication of time, Arabic numerals and rose gold hands. Plain case, maker’s mark P. Case numbered, dial and movement signed. Comes with, probably, the original key.

Bouvier was the manufacturer of this extremely rare automaton. Four of these automatons are now in the collection of the Patek Philippe Museum, namely the numbers No. 6389, 7066, 6129 and 6589. Interesting is the present version with the automaton on the dial. This seems to be the only known piece so far. All other Bouvier wandering automatons have the automaton on the back. Since the dial is also signed, it is obvious, that this watch is not a rebuild, but absolutely original.

Signed: Bouvier Frères
