Important Geneva watchmaker Gedeon-François Esquivillon (1717-1799).
–
Gedéon-François Esquivillon was born in 1717 and became a watchmaker like his father Antoine Esquivillon. Together with his brothers Joseph Esquivillon, Jean François Esquivillon and Jacques De Choudens, he founded a workshop that produced high-quality verge pocket watches. The signature after the partnership with De Choudens was: ‘Les Frères Esquivillon & De Choudens’. Gedéon was married to Marie De Choudens, who was a niece of the famous watchmaker Abraham Collomby. From 1746 to 1755 he worked for Collomby and from 1750 to 1754 he was also a business partner of Abraham Collomby’s son-in-law Barthélemy Girod. Besides the company Les Frères Esquivillon & De Choudens, the company Gedéon Esquivillon & De Choudens also existed from 1771 to 1780. Gedéon-François Esquivillon died on 2 October 1799. As the watch is signed Gedéon Esquivillon, it was probably made before the company was united with other partners, presumably before 1746.
