Carl Naab was a student of the German Watchmaking School Glashütte from 1880 to 1882.
–
Carl Friedrich Jakob Naab was born on 8 December 1861 in Annweiler/Landau in the Palatinate as son of Carl Naab and his second wife Emma Rosalie Wolff (1838-1904). Carl Friedrich Jakob Naab and his father were also called ‘Karl’ in archives, but ‘Carl’ can be clearly read in the watch here. The eighteen-year-old Karl Naab was trained as a watchmaker from October 1, 1880, to April 30, 1882, with number 73 at the German Watchmaking School Glashütte. Carl married Luise Bartz on August 28, 1897 in Annweiler, Palatinate. From this marriage, daughter Emma Naab was born on 29 June 1898. Carl Friedrich Jakob Naab died in 1918 in Annweiler and became 57 years old.
–
It is believed that this is a commemorative watch of the watchmaker to his mother, which he later gave away to his daughter. Carl Naab must have had an incredibly close relationship to his mother, who raised him alone, because his father had died before he was born. It is known from the family chronicle that there was also a second watch in which Carl Naab coped with the death of his mother.

Quote: “A pocket watch in gold, engraved on the lid with the Naab coat of arms. Inside, in the tiniest execution, lifelike, in gold, the death chamber of his mother is reproduced, with a coffin in which her heart lies. Everything worked with a magnifying glass”.
Signed: Carl Naab
