Silver skull-form watch by Jacques Le Vieille

A fine French silver skull form watch with concealed dial, Memento Mori, circa 1660. Gilt brass full plate movement, turned baluster pillars, fusee with chain, short train, verge escapement, circular iron foliot, irregular cock secured by a screw. Silver champlevé dial with radial Roman chapters, half hour divisions and a single hand, the centre engraved with a riverside town and a watermill in the foreground. Case double bodied, cast in relief, repoussé and chased, jaw hinged at the back of the neck to reveal the dial set in the underside of the head.
