Victor Kullberg was born in Visby on the island of Gotland on 13 August 1824. Kullberg was the son of Johan Kullberg (1800-1876) and Hedvig Christina Ahlström (1801-1840), and from 1840 he was trained as a watchmaker by the local watch and chronometer manufacturer Victor Söderberg. His further professional training was completed in Copenhagen by Louis Urban Jürgensen, probably Scandinavia’s most famous watchmaker. At the age of 27, he travelled to the World Exhibition in London in 1851 and made contacts with other chronometer makers there. Then in 1856, he opened his own manufactory in Liverpool Road 105. He produced marine chronometers and precision pocket watches. His outstanding achievements did not remain undiscovered: in 1874 he was appointed as the Court Watchmaker to the Swedish Royal House and was awarded the Wasa medal.
