An English gilt metal and rock crystal pocket watch, circa 1650. Verge escapement movement, pre balance spring, and transformed cock, winding through the back. Dial with Roman numeral hour circle decor at the centre of a lake scene and one steel hand. Engraved and faceted case.

An example of portable watches with one hand on the dial. The concept of accuracy will come up with the invention of the balance spring in 1685 by Huygens, probably explaining the processing that is performed on this watch. Some pieces from this period have been preserved in major museum collections such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Patek Philippe Museum.
